Rotary Information

Where can I find out more about Rotary International?

In 2013, Rotary International launched a new website to meet the emerging needs of the thriving Rotary community of more than 1.2 million worldwide. The website can be accessed at www.rotary.org

Are all Rotary clubs the same?

Rotary comprises more than 32000 clubs worldwide, with more than a 100 here in Western Australia. When considering what we have to offer, it’s worth thinking about the variety of ways in which one can enjoy being a Rotarian. Clubs offer a range of different versions of the Rotary Experience, with just some of the variables including:

  • Day of the week of meeting
  • Time of day of the meeting
  • Number of meetings
  • Projects undertaken
  • Common interests of members
  • Meeting format
  • Meeting mode (eg e-clubs meet more frequently online)
  • Meeting frequency
  • Meeting location
That's just for starters. There's a lot more to the Rotary Experience.

How can I find out more about what Rotary has to offer?

Contact the D9465 Assistant Governor responsible for supporting your club. AGs are a tremendous support resource for clubs.

Retention

What factors affect club membership retention rates?

Members have been shown to be more likely to stay with a club if they are involved in projects and other activities that they enjoy. Offering new members the opportunity to take the lead on projects about which they are passionate usually works. A good club Rotary education program also helps new members settle in, too, as they understand how the club’s activities fit into the greater Rotary cause, our humanitarian work and the many opportunities for very satisfying service. When members move from one location to another, introductions to clubs in the new location can help keep members in Rotary.

When should clubs start planning to retain members?

Retention planning is ongoing. The best form of member retention is engagement and enjoyment of the Rotary Experience. Consultation with members is a key aspect of club planning, so by understanding what our members want and planning accordingly, we improve the likelihood of members staying. By focussing on the real needs of members early in the Rotary year, we can take action to address any issues and help strengthen the ties between clubs and members.

Who can I contact to find out more about member retention?

Talk to your Assistant Governor or our District 9465 Membership Director Kero O'Shea.

Club Visioning

What is Club Visioning?

Club Visioning is a process by which club members work together with the assistance of skilled facilitators to develop a future view of what the club should be like. Members identify issues collectively and then prioritise those issues to determine what needs to change.

What resources are available to help with Club Visioning?

District 9465 is well served by a very experienced team of club visioning specialists led by PDG John Simmons and including a number of other very experienced Rotarians who are passionate about the future of Rotary and want to help clubs. What steps are involved in Club Visioning?

There are two stages in the Club Visioning process:

  • Briefing of members on what is involved in Club Visioning;
  • The workshop during which members participate to influence their club’s future.
